RESEARCH INTERESTS

The goal of my research program is to provide new insight into retinal diseases using ophthalmic imaging. Specifically, I use innovative acquisition and processing methods to obtain and extract new information from imaging data. This field of research is important to ensure imaging devices are used to the best of their potential for improved patient care when diagnosing, treating, and monitoring retinal diseases. Two important priorities for my research program are:

  1. Creating a diverse research group with multi-disciplinary collaborations
  2. Research that is a balance of experimental methods and clinical relevance

Retinal Imaging

Symbol of an eye

The eye is a complex organ that contains central nervous system tissue, but also remarkably accessible to view and study non-invasively.

Image Interpretation

Symbol of a computer screen

Novel methods for image analysis, especially 3D data, can provide new understanding of retinal diseases and be used for artificial intelligence.

Clinical Data

Symbol of graphs

Answering research questions with a combination of administrative and clinical records from hospital databases and chart reviews.

Research Opportunities: Trainees/students interested in research opportunities should send a summary of their interests and their CV to corey.smith@dal.ca. We will work with trainees to develop strong proposals for scholarship and fellowship applications.
